Mothers Union Malawi Walkathon 2015

I know Shaggy had a different angle of perspective from mine as he composed one of his most popular hits “Strengths of a Woman” I don’t really agree with some of his lyrics, but when all is said and done, no sane human can refuse to acknowledge the physical, mental and spiritual powers that women posses.

It is beyond reasonable doubt that women are the pillars of beauty and presence; in fact they are the evidence of life in the church, because strength only inhabits the living.

To establish this, the Mother’s Union of the Anglican Diocese of southern Malawi, has yet again proved their determination by raising a whooping sum of MWK 1,300,000 in a big walk that was held on the 20th of June 2015. The big walk began from St. Mathews, Chichiri Parish to the Mega, St Pauls Cathedral.

Speaking to The Diocesan Newsletter; the fundraising chairperson for the MU Guild, Mrs Gloria Makunje revealed that the raised figure has brought them halfway towards the purchase of a 7 Million 30 Seater bus which the guild would stop at nothing but buy towards the end of this year.

The chairperson revealed that, of the amount, MWK 271,000 was raised during the walk, forms are expected to make about MWK 800,000 and Golf Shirt sells gave the guild MWK 300,000 in profit.

Gracing the occasion, Bishop of the diocese, Rt. Rev. Alinafe, along with the Mothers Union Chaplain, Very Rev A. Kalilombe participated in the big walk. In his remarks; the bishop, applauded MU as the pride of the diocese. Making a donation of MWK 50,000 towards the bus project, the bishop pledged his full support for all mothers Union and program.

The Guild is yet to conducts other fundraising activities such as a Dinner and Dance in September, Revealing this to the people who attended the final ceremony at the Bishop Mackenzie hall; the Mother’s Union president Mrs Margaret Marobe thanked all the people present for the continued support. She highlighted that the bus project is of great importance to the Guild as it shall be an income generator as well as ease missionary movements for the guild.
